Contra Dancing |
Generally on the 4-th Sunday of each month. But there may be exceptions!
Instruction for beginners at 1:40pm - 2:00. Dancing from 2-5pm
St. Paul's Episcopal Parish House, 100 E. High St. in Mt. Vernon. The parish house is one block east of the square in the center of town, on the SE corner of E. High and Gay St. You can park for free behind (south of) the parish house.
Adults, $7, Students $5, Whole Family, $15.
Light, casual dress. Please bring dancing shoes or comfy socks.

The contra group in Columbus has posted their schedule online at bigscioty.com. There, you will find links to other contra groups in Ohio, and information about dance weekends around the Mid-West.
Contra dances are built from some basic moves familiar to square dancers. Each dance will be taught, and the caller will prompt you through several iterations of each dance. To make our sessions easier for beginners, a caller typically starts with easy dances, and progresses to harder ones.
Contra dancing is beginner friendly!!! Although the fundamentals of contra dancing can be taught in about half an hour, the nuances and the pleasure can last a lifetime!
