About Contra Dancing

Want to have fun in a participatory, truly American, art form? Think you'd enjoy dancing and listening to an entire evening of LIVE, old-time music for only $8.00? Come join us contra dancing at The Big Scioty Contra Dance!

Big Scioty Contra Dances are open to all who want to have fun dancing. No experience, partner, or costume is required. These dances feature New England and Mid-Western contras as well as old and new Southern and Eastern squaresand circles. All dances are taught. Beginners should arrive at 7.30 pm for instruction. Dances are more challenging later in the evening. All dancers are encouraged to dance with different partners, to share skills and gain expertise besides, you'll have more fun! Children welcome.

Big Scioty dances are usually on the first and third Saturday nights, from September through May, on from 8 to 11:00 pm at First Congregational Church, 444 East Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. All Soles dances are on the second friday at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer. Clintonville dances are usually on the 4th Saturday at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights at the intersection with High St. To find out when the next dance is, see our current schedule which is also posted in this group.
